The second trimester has finally come to a close (wait, how did that happen?!) and I’ve got another week-by-week(ish) recap for you. I say “ish” because there are some weeks we’ll skip because nothing interesting or major really happened. It was a busy season for us outside of being pregnant, but I’m glad things are slowing down now (just in time to ramp up again soon with Foster’s arrival!). If you haven’t seen my first trimester recap or our low-key gender reveal, check those out too!
Weeks 13-15: Oh, hi bump!
I wrote in my pregnancy journal that I felt like I was actually starting to show this week. I hadn’t actually gained any weight yet, but I felt like my face was showing that I’m pregnant. Where’s that “glow” everyone talks about?? We started getting ready for Christmas and we kept thinking about how much fun it will be to celebrate with two kids next year!
Note: looking back, I did NOT look pregnant yet. This photo was taken at 15 weeks and even though I was wearing a very forgiving dress it still didn’t look like I was showing. But I definitely felt like there was a bump!
Week 16: Christmas!
The week of Christmas was crazy, as always. It’s so hard to balance wanting to do all the things and allowing time to just breathe and enjoy the season. This week I had my 16 week appointment and got to hear baby’s heartbeat again. That sound never gets old, especially when I’m not feeling baby kick yet. Hopefully just a couple more weeks until that happens.
Week 17-18: Beginning to Nest
We went on a little vacation this week to watch the Razorbacks play in a bowl game in Charlotte, NC. They lost pretty horribly and the game was freezing but we had a good time. When we got home, I started clearing out the guest room closet to make way for a new (permanent) resident. We still have no idea what we want to do with the nursery, but we’re excited to get started once we know the gender!
We also took a bump picture that was too cute not to share. Graham wanted to show the baby in his belly too!
Week 19: The Big Reveal!
We found out on Tuesday of this week that we’re having another boy! We’re very excited that Graham will have a little brother to play with and the age difference is perfect. We went out to dinner with the grandparents (all of them together since Jon’s parents were in town!) to reveal the gender to them. It was fun to have everyone in the same room for the first time in a long time!
I also found out why I’m not feeling this baby move nearly as much as Graham: my placenta is on the front of my belly, so it basically acts like a punching bag for him and I don’t feel it. Hoping to feel more movement soon. It sure is reassuring!
Week 20: Rocket Launches and Naming the Baby
We drove to the beach to watch a rocket launch on Thursday, but it was scrubbed so we went again Friday and it launched! We hope this baby gets to see lots of cool launches as he gets older!
Sunday we made it official: baby #2 will be called Foster Baxley. We had a list started on our phones, but we also printed out the list of the top 1000 baby names from the Social Security Administration. We went through every. single. name. on the list, but went with Foster which isn’t in the top 1000 – we just liked it! Baxley is the name of the small town in Georgia where much of my family is originally from, so it was a way to honor them. Side note: Graham’s middle name is Vernon after one of his great-grandfathers on Jon’s side of the family, so now we have both sides represented with names! This photo is how we shared the name on social media:
Week 23: Prepping Graham
We started a tradition (well, a loose tradition) of having a movie night on Fridays. We figure we’ll be spending a lot more time at home once Foster arrives, at least for a while, so we should add something fun for Graham that we can all do together. Movie night seemed like the perfect idea and he was really into it! We’ve done several since the first one and they’ve all been great fun.
Week 24-25: Valentine’s Day
We continued our Valentine’s Day tradition of going to McDonald’s this week, but other than that it was pretty slow. We did take another bump picture in week 25 though!
Week 26: Graham’s Second Birthday and Babymoon Planning!
We let Graham decide the theme for his party this year and he chose Nemo! I love the idea of letting the kids decide how they want to celebrate their birthdays and I can’t wait to see Foster’s personality come through when he’s old enough to have opinions about parties. We had a small get-together at our house and hung out with friends and family for a few hours.
We also booked our babymoon! We didn’t take an official babymoon trip before we had Graham, but we both felt like it was a good idea since we haven’t gone away together for more than one night since Graham was born. We’ll be visiting Hilton Head in just a couple weeks and, even though we’ll definitely miss Graham, we’re really looking forward to a relaxing trip together.
Week 27: A Nursery Epiphany!
On Friday we had our taxes done (yay for tax returns!) and went to Adjectives Market in Altamonte to see if we could get some ideas for Foster’s nursery. We hadn’t been inside for 2 minutes before it hit us. We’re going with an “Old Florida” theme, think orange crate labels and distressed wood. I can’t wait to put it all together and share what it looks like here on the blog!
Hoping the next trimester goes as smoothly as this one did! More updates to come on the blog soon!
