Living in Orlando, we’re spoiled. We have world class entertainment on our doorstep and lots of locals don’t take advantage of that. We recently went to Sea Life Orlando Aquarium and I think it’s a great way to entertain the kids in the tourist district without paying admission to a theme park. Y’all know I’ll always be honest in my reviews and there were definitely some drawbacks that I’ll tell you about, but overall I say you should go once. Especially if you have young kids who love animals.
Things I liked about it:
The prices weren’t the same as, say, Sea World, but the kids still get a great experience.
It’s a good way to wait out a summer storm or have something to do indoors on a hot day.
There were plenty of experiences designed with kids in mind – a scavenger hunt with a prize at the end, a playground, a touch pool, and viewing portals on their level.
The jellyfish wall was super cool.
And so was the tunnel that completely surrounded us by sea life.
Things I didn’t like about it:
- The line to get in was frustrating. There weren’t enough employees to handle the volume of customers on a Saturday morning. A good problem for them to have, I suppose, but still not the best way to start the day when you’ve got an impatient toddler in tow.
- Even though the price is lower than Sea World, I don’t think the value is really there. It’s relatively small and you can’t spend more than a couple hours walking around (we did it in an hour and didn’t rush through).
- You’re not allowed to use flash on your camera, so it was tough to get pictures. The photographer at the beginning of the experience takes your photo, but it’s only available in an overpriced package at the end.
- Some of the tanks had unnecessary background screens that had video of ocean scenes on it that was kind of cheesy (see below).
Bottom line: it’s a fine way to spend a weekend morning, but don’t count on it being your entire day.
How would I do it if I went again?
I’d go for the multi-ticket discount. If you purchase a ride on the Orlando Eye and tickets to the aquarium you get a discount. That’s the way to go because you could spend more time there and have more of a variety of experiences. It’s also located in the I-Drive 360 complex, so there are plenty of other things to see, do, and eat in the area.
Have you been to Sea Life Aquarium? What did you think?
