We recently had the chance to see a media preview of the new Rivers of Light nighttime show at Animal Kingdom and it. is. amazing! I’ve got all the details and some tips for you so you can make the most of your next visit!
If you’re a Disney fan you’ve probably been hearing about this show for a while. It was set to open almost a year ago, but it’s been delayed for a while and it has absolutely been worth the wait. This show features incredible new technology that will absolutely wow you. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything like this show. I’m a die hard “Wishes” fan, but this show is a close second.
You’ll be seated in a new stadium built just for viewing the show. There are areas where you can see the show outside the stadium (near Everest), but for the best experience I’d definitely recommend getting there early for a seat.
There’s a pre-show where you’ll see some projections on the surrounding greenery and the lotus blossoms make their way around the lake.
I wasn’t really expecting what we saw in the show. There are water cannons inside those gorgeous lotus blossoms and projections on the water show beautiful photos and nature films that are timed to music. It’s a similar idea to what’s done in part of the Fantasmic show at Hollywood Studios, but this is so much more advanced.
The finale is nothing short of spectacular!
It’s really difficult to describe this show in words. You definitely have to see it for yourself.
- If you want a good seat, get there at least an hour before the show (but earlier is better).
- Taking pictures is difficult because the incline of the stadium isn’t very steep. If you’re there to take photos, I’d suggest sitting in the top row of the stadium so you can stand up to avoid getting people’s heads in your photos and not bother anyone behind you by standing.
- Plan on eating before the show or bringing a snack. The counter service restaurants are closed by the time the show ends and you’ll have to wait until you leave the park to have dinner.
- If you can stay for a bit, on your way out of the park walk by the Tree of Life to see the projection show on it! It tells a neat story and it’s really cool to see the tree come to life.
