Jon and I don’t do birthday gifts. We leave gifts for Christmas. For anniversaries and birthdays we give adventures. This year for Jon’s birthday we went on a date night to Pig Floyd’s and SAK Comedy Lab. The next day we took a trip to Tampa Bay Downs to watch the horse races. You can read more about that here.
We had both heard great things about Pig Floyd’s and it did not disappoint. It has a great atmosphere and a cool vibe with a large patio and plenty of indoor seating as well. There’s also a great selection of craft beers – Jon tried one from Iceland. We both ordered sandwiches, but we’ve also heard their tacos are awesome so we’ll have to try them next time!
I had the Barbakoa Banh Mi and it was really good! I will say the meat didn’t have as much flavor by itself as I would have liked, but the rest of the flavors on the sandwich more than made up for that and the fries that came with it were great.
Jon had the Big Floyd which I tasted. It’ll be hard to resist getting that one again!
After dinner, we headed downtown to SAK Comedy Lab. They do improv comedy along the lines of what you may have seen on “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, so the show is different every time. We’ve been there countless times before and it’s always fantastic. Plus, what’s not to love about a place that throws Tootsie Rolls at you before the show starts?! Oh, and make sure you participate in the show when asked for suggestions – it’s even more fun when the audience interacts a lot. We usually end up at the earlier show (because we’re getting old and the AARP just called to beg us to join) but here’s a pro tip: if you go to the early show you can get in to the show that’s immediately after it for just $5! Make sure you also park in the Plaza garage bring your ticket to SAK so they can validate your parking down to $4.
It was such a great time and we’ll definitely be doing this same date night again! What’s your favorite date night in Central Florida?
